    Director, Scotland

    WildFish is a charity dedicated to conserving wild fish and their aquatic habitats.

    We’re seeking a Director, Scotland, who will play a leading role in designing, planning and executing national campaigns and representing the charity in Scotland.

    You’ll be responsible for developing innovative strategies, working in partnership with the wider WildFish team and external partners, and managing key relationships with stakeholders, including parliamentarians and media. You will also oversee the charity’s Off the table campaign.

    Open-net salmon farming severely damages wild salmonid populations and compromises the integrity of the marine and freshwater ecosystems. We campaign for the closure of all existing open-net salmon farms and robustly oppose any proposed expansion of existing farms or the establishment of new farms.

    This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a proven track record in campaign management and strategic thinking, to take the helm at a pivotal moment in the organisation’s long-standing campaign to curb the negative environmental impacts of open-net salmon farming, as well as other issues impacting wild fish populations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Set and lead strategy for salmon farm campaigning – reporting to the CEO and collaborating with science, legal and communications colleagues.
    • Oversee Off the table campaign in the UK and internationally, drive growth in the campaign, setting the strategy in partnership with the Off the table Campaign Manager
    • Oversee community outreach in Scotland.
    • Line manage Scotland team
    • Work with stakeholders across Scotland, the UK and internationally. (MSPs, community groups, NGOs, fisheries reps, key supporters and bodies.)
    • Keep abreast of issues threatening freshwater wild fish numbers in Scotland, salmon farming developments (across science/research, policy and legislation/regulation, industry, international), working with the in-house communications team and external media contacts
    • Keep up to date on scientific developments in partnership with science colleagues
    • Support fundraising.
    • Respond to Scottish Government consultations and carry out parliamentary advocacy
    • Represent WildFish in the media, Scottish Parliament and in meetings with other relevant stakeholders
    • Conduct industry research (both in-house and commissioned) and write reports.
    • Write press releases, work with the comms team to create social media messaging and media assets
    • Support on SmartRivers work in Scotland.

    Personal Requirements

    Essential

    • Passion for WildFish’s mission and a commitment to its values.
    • Proven experience in leading and delivering successful campaigns, ideally in Scotland.
    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to pivot and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and drive performance.
    • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of audiences.
    • Understanding of digital and traditional media, including social media, PR, and content creation.

     Desirable

    • Experience of acting as a spokesperson for a charity or similar organisation
    • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decisions and track campaign performance.
    • A passion for making a positive impact and creating social or political change.
    • Academic training or equivalent practical experience in a relevant environmental/biological discipline.
    • Knowledge of issues facing wild fish populations, and/or open-net salmon farming is desirable.

     What We Offer

    • Salary: £50,000 (dependent on experience).
    • 25 days annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays.
    • Additional leave during the festive season.
    • Flexible and remote working arrangements, with occasional travel to Salisbury (SP2).

    Off the table Campaign Manager

    WildFish is a charity dedicated to conserving wild fish and their aquatic habitats.

    We are looking for a bright and experienced individual, a self-starter with experience of leading high-profile campaigns, to join our team in an exciting new phase of our work to rein in the damaging impacts of salmon farming.  You will lead the charity’s Off the table campaign.

    A passion for improving wild fish populations and aquatic habitats is essential. Knowledge of sustainable food systems and the hospitality sector would be a plus. You’ll play a pivotal role in amplifying our voice in the media and driving awareness of the critical issues facing wild fish populations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Helping to develop, manage and drive forward the Off the table (OTT) campaign and communications
    • Building links and partnerships with external stakeholders in the hospitality sector, media, charity/voluntary sector and government.
    • Maintaining a suite of communication aides, including website, hard copy and/or digital communications, images, video, film – to support the narrative.
    • Acting as a campaign spokesperson, in the media and at conferences (this may include international travel).
    • Working with our campaigning team to increase awareness of the damaging impacts and unsustainability of salmon farming.
    • Supporting with investigations/research into salmon farming industry in Scotland.

    Personal Requirements

    • Demonstrable experience of running a multi-stakeholder campaign with successful outcomes.
    • A confident communicator, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, who is comfortable talking to a diverse range of stakeholders with different interests, perspectives and personalities.
    • Prepared to take the initiative and manage own workload, reacting to shifting priorities as required.
    • Able to travel around UK and occasionally internationally.
    • IT skills (Microsoft Office, GIS, website management, social media) and project planning, organisation and delivery experience.

    Desirable

    • Academic training or equivalent practical experience in a relevant environmental/ biological discipline.
    • Experience of digital campaigning

    What We Offer

    • Salary: £30,000–£35,000 (dependent on experience).
    • 25 days annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays.
