Chemicals pollution: the silent killer of UK rivers

Chemicals feature heavily in our everyday lives, but when they leak into the environment they pollute with catastrophic effects.

To protect wild fish and where they live we must reduce our reliance on chemicals in general, but also need sufficient enforcement to deter polluters.

How can you help?

The Bakkavor Story

Our evidence on the River Itchen indicated that discharge permits in place to protect the river were not fit for purpose.

The plant responsible is now closed, but following the work 52 other discharge permits were identified as potentially discharging unmonitored pesticides unmonitored into rivers and groundwaters.

The Environment Agency committed to reviewing all these licences, but we need your help to keep up the pressure.
