WildFish launch Christmas appeal to raise vital funds for Atlantic salmon conservation
Today, WildFish opens its 2023 Christmas Appeal to raise funds for its vital work to save wild Atlantic salmon.
Having thrived on our planet for millions of years, as one of only a handful of fish that can survive in fresh and marine waters, wild Atlantic salmon are very special. Today, too many challenges threaten their survival. Open-net salmon farming is one of these and a notable cause of their decline.
Last year more than 16.7 million farmed salmon died prematurely on Scottish salmon farms. This was almost double the previous year. Even salmon farms certified by leading certification schemes such as Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), RSPCA Assured and Soil Association Organic suffer from shocking environmental damage and welfare concerns.
The money donated will be used to continue building a movement of chefs and restaurants across the country ready to join WildFish in their campaign to take farmed salmon Off the table.
Through working with chefs and restaurants, WildFish will spread the word that farmed salmon is not a sustainable choice – for consumers or for policymakers.
